An Inaugural Experience with TravelCharlee

When MSC Cruises unveiled MSC World America at their Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, we knew this would be a game-changer in the world of cruising. As one of the largest ships at sea, this next-generation vessel blends bold innovations, a modern design, with a perfect mix of European style meets American comfort, delivering an amazing experience for every cruiser.

As a cruise veteran and a travel content creator, the inaugural sailing of MSC World America was an invitation I couldn’t refuse. I partnered with MSC Cruises and am thrilled to share my first impressions, from indulgent bites and thrilling attractions to luxe spa time and the stunning private island of Ocean Cay, Bahamas.

The christening ceremony was a glamorous affair filled with music, champagne, and excitement. Throughout the first day there was a live appearance by Marc Anthony, a performance by Gloria Estefan, a champagne blessing by the ship’s godmother, Drew Barrymore, and a dazzling fireworks show before we sailed from the Port of Miami. Check out the highlights!

A Ship Built for Exploring—and Plenty of it!

Let’s start with the size of this ship! MSC World America spans over 1,000 feet in length and boasts a gross tonnage of approximately 215,863. This mega-ship can accommodate over 6,700 guests and features 2,614 cabins across a wide range of categories. From inside cabins to oceanview rooms, balconies, and suites, there is an option for every type of cruiser. The ship is designed with an ultramodern Y-shaped layout, ensuring breathtaking ocean views while maximizing the passenger flow. With more than 18 bars and lounges, 19 dining venues, 20 pools and whirlpools, it’s not just a ship—it’s a floating city of entertainment, relaxation, and global flavors. It truly delivers “big ship energy” in every sense.

Let’s Talk Entertainment: Slides, Bumper Cars, & More!

One of the most delightful surprises… the Bumper cars at sea!  I felt like a kid again at the Sportplex! Whether you’re traveling with kids or you’re simply young at heart, the indoor amusement area is packed with energy.

We also couldn’t get enough of the Jaw Drop, a dry slide that extends 11 decks high and is currently the longest at sea. YES, I loved the slide and wanted to go again and again. This is not your average cruise ship thrill ride, and it’s an adrenaline rush with panoramic views.

The Cliffhanger on MSC World America is the only overwater swing ride at sea, launching guests 160 feet above the ocean for a thrill ride that’s equal parts adrenaline and jaw-dropping views. No, I decided not to partake in this activity mainly because I really don’t like heights.

Beyond that, there’s an expansive Sportsplex with activities like basketball, table tennis, roller skating, and an arcade full of immersive games. The VR Zone offers cutting-edge simulations, including virtual Formula One racing. For outdoor lovers, there are multiple pools, including an adults-only Zen pool, a kid-friendly splash area, and a stunning infinity pool perfect for sunset lounging. It’s impossible to be bored on this ship.

A Vibrant Bar Scene

MSC World America offers a vibrant and diverse nightlife scene, featuring 18 bars and lounges that cater to a wide range of tastes. For sports enthusiasts, the All-Stars Sports Bar offers American-style fare and bar games. The Loft, a multi-purpose venue, hosts comedy shows and karaoke, offering a lively entertainment experience. Gin aficionados can explore The Gin Project, which offers a selection of over 70 craft gins, while beer lovers can enjoy exclusive brews at Masters of the Sea, a British-style pub with its own microbrewery. If you are a lover of champagne, the Fizz Champagne Bar is the perfect place for you.

For those who love the live music scene, the Panorama Lounge features theatrical music concerts and a house band with amazing aft views. The Elixir Mixology Bar and Dolce Vita Bar offer sophisticated cocktails and live performances throughout the evening.

Dining That Delivers

Dining on large ships can be hit or miss, but the main dining room on MSC World America was impressive. Only dining for 2 evenings onboard the ship, both dinners were made to perfection. My favorites were lobster bisque,  surf and turf, and strawberry cheesecake for dessert.  There are so many culinary options to choose from in their specialty restaurants, including a steakhouse, Asian fusion, Mexican, Greek, and more.

If that wasn’t enough, the pizza is made fresh in wood-fired ovens with just the right char, and the gelato is smooth, rich, and flavorful. Yes, we sampled pizza and gelato a few times.  😉

Yacht Club: The Ship-Within-a-Ship Concept

If you’re looking for a truly elevated experience, MSC Yacht Club is where we all need to aspire to be!  This “ship-within-a-ship” offers all the exclusivity and elegance of a boutique resort, while still giving guests access to the amenities of a larger than life ship.

Yacht Club accommodations range from Deluxe Suites to Royal Suites and Owner’s Suites, some of which measure over 1,000 square feet with expansive balconies, whirlpool tubs, and panoramic windows. The Yacht Club Lounge serves premium beverages and gourmet small plates throughout the day, while the private Yacht Club Restaurant delivers fine dining in an intimate setting. Guests also enjoy access to an exclusive sundeck with pool, hot tub, bar service, and plush loungers, as well as 24-hour butler service, concierge, and priority embarkation/disembarkation. It’s perfect for luxury travelers who want to escape the crowds while still enjoying everything the ship has to offer.

Yacht Club guests also receive unlimited access to the Thermal Spa, as well as complimentary premium Wi-Fi and beverages ship-wide.  Definitely worth a look when you are booking your stateroom onboard.  Price out the Yacht club since it offers the whole gamut of amenities.

Spa Bliss: Don’t Skip the Thermal Suite

If you follow TravelCharlee, then you know this is my favorite place on a ship!  The Aurea Spa is practically mandatory, in my opinion.  This full-service Balinese-style wellness sanctuary offers a long list of treatments.  Massages to facials to body wraps and acupuncture, but the real gem is the thermal spa suite. This serene area features aromatherapy steam rooms, Finnish saunas, salt rooms, a snow cave, and heated stone loungers, all designed to detoxify and soothe. There’s even a thalassotherapy pool with massaging water jets for deep relaxation. The atmosphere is quiet and restorative, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean. It’s the perfect place to unplug and unwind.

Guests staying in certain cabin categories, such as Aurea experience rooms, receive complimentary spa access. Otherwise, it’s worth booking a day pass in advance as the space tends to fill up quickly on sea days.  Yes, I highly recommend booking as soon as possible for the thermal spa experience.

Ocean Cay: A Private Island Paradise

One of the standout experiences of our cruise was the stop (we had an overnight) at Ocean Cay, MSC Marine Reserve, MSC’s private island in the Bahamas. This former industrial site has been beautifully transformed into a marine sanctuary, with eight beaches, crystal-clear lagoons, and an eco-friendly ethos. The turquoise waters are amazing!

We took the Lighthouse Tour at 9am, climbing to the top, only a few steps… 165 to be exact, for panoramic views of the cay and the turquoise waters. What a VIEW!  The evening showcases a Lighthouse Light Show, which transforms the island into a glowing, music-filled escape, capping off a perfect beach day.  I’m going to say one of my favorites on this inaugural cruise!  Bonus, we enjoyed a late-night beach party with a DJ, and all guests were dressed in white attire!

Guests can rent cabana-style daybeds, book water sports and excursions, or simply stroll along the soft sand with a coconut drink in hand. With limited crowds and a focus on preserving the natural ecosystem, Ocean Cay feels less like a theme park and more like a true slice of paradise.  Personally I’ve experienced many of the cruise line private islands and I can honestly say Ocean Cay is one of the best!

MSC Cruises- Who are they, you might be asking?

MSC Cruises is the third-largest cruise line in the world and has made major strides in the North American market over the past decade. Known for its chic ships, sustainability initiatives, and Mediterranean hospitality, MSC brings a European influence to the cruise experience.  Think espresso over drip coffee, stylish evening attire, and a cosmopolitan onboard vibe.

With the launch of MSC World America, the brand is clearly making a splash in the Americas.  Another of the biggest highlights was embarking through the new Port of Miami terminal.  It’s officially the largest cruise terminal in the world. Designed to handle 36,000 passengers a day, the terminal is sleek, modern, and efficient, with streamlined embarkation and disembarkation that set the tone for our inaugural cruise.

Final Thoughts: Is MSC World America Worth It?

Absolutely!  Whether you’re a first-time cruiser or a seasoned cruiser, MSC World America offers a dynamic blend of fun, flavor, and sophistication. You can be as active or as relaxed as you want to be.  Your options are endless!  Lounge in the Yacht Club,  slide down a spiral,  indulge in a spa day, or dance under the stars at Ocean Cay.  There’s no one “type” of guest this ship is for because it truly has something for everyone.  As always, if you have questions on MSC World America, I’m here to help.
